Civil Contempt Updated or not?
This isn’t a short story, but the short answer for now is: I have to wait until Monday for the help desk to reopen, to continue my argument with them.
So, I published a shorter book for book 3 – for that, I’m sorry. My goal was to write more and add it down the track then make it available at no extra cost.
Which is what I did.
The issue has been getting the “new” version to the people who bought the original.
The help desk says it’s there, indeed, people who are purchasing it for the first time have the entire 80k now, and are able to proceed to the 88k book 4. I uploaded it on Tuesday, at worst, it should have been live on Friday night.
It’s Sunday night, and people who bought the original version still can’t access it.
I don’t know why. I don’t know how to fix it, short of unpublishing it and getting people to return their original copies and buying the new one. That also means losing the title – I can’t use it again, which means getting the cover fixed too. It’s not a simple five minute thing.
I’m getting hate mail. Hate reviews. People are returning not just the Of Magic and Contempt books, but ALL of my books.
This is hurting me, mentally, financially and my physical health too. I get ill when I’m stressed – and believe me, I’m stressed.
All I can do is beg for you to bear with me while I push Amazon to fix this.
It is, at the end of the day, a book, and I’ll get it to you one way or another. It’s worth the price of a cup of coffee. It is not worth the hate that is being directed at me. If this level of anger continues, then I have to seriously consider whether I keep doing this or not.
Today was Mother’s Day in Australia, and I spent it with false smiles for my kids and cracks in my heart. I’ve spent this evening crying. If you can’t wait a day or two extra for a book, if you feel that you’re entitled to rant and behave terribly over a book – well, then I pity you.
Please, stop the attacks.
